Colorado Trains and National Parks
August 10 - 27, 2017

Day 1 - We will depart our home town en route to Colorado, our first overnight will be in St. Louis, Missouri. Upon arrival, you will have the evening free for dinner or shopping if you choose.

Day 2 - Following a deluxe continental breakfast, we will continue on our journey as we travel on to Hayes, Kansas for an overnight stay. Upon check-in, dinner will be on your own.

Day 3 - After enjoying a deluxe continental breakfast, we will depart for our next stop, Denver, Colorado. After check-in, meet your fellow travelers at a dinner hosted by Mark Warther of the Warther Train Museum.

Day 4 - Enjoy an included breakfast this morning before we depart for our first train ride on the Georgetown Loop Railroad. The thriving mining towns of Georgetown and Silver Plume lie two miles apart in a steep, narrow mountain canyon. Following lunch on your own in Georgetown, we travel to Palisade, Colorado. We will be staying at the Wine Country Inn, where you can stroll through the working vineyards that surround the Inn, and 80-room Victorian style hotel, which sits in the middle of 21 acres of vines. This evening we enjoy a "Wine Makers Dinner". Before each course is presented, the chef and the vineyard representative provide insight into the dish's preparation and the wine's selection.

Day 5 - After our included breakfast, we visit one of the grand landscapes of the American West - Colorado National Monument. This morning we will take in breathtaking views of deep, sheer-sided canyons and high, rock towers as we enjoy a day of touring. Culminate our visit to this National Monument with a sunset dinner served on the canyon rim.

Day 6 - Following our included breakfast, we depart Colorado's wine country and head to the San Juan Mountains. Silverton is an old mining town in the heart of the San Juan Mountains and home to the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. This amazing train winds through spectacular and breathtaking canyons in the remote wilderness of the two-million acre San Juan National Forest for an unforgettable adventure. We end our day in Durango, Colorado where we will stay at the Historic Strater Hotel. Your property is filled with grandeur and has grown into the largest collection of American Victorian era furniture in the world. Dinner tonight is at the famous Palace restaurant in Durango.

Day 7 - The morning starts with an included breakfast at the hotel. From local history to railroad museums, historic downtown Durango has it all. See the ancient cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde National Park, where you may even climb into the dwellings. After our included dinner, we will see the "Durango Melodrama and Vaudeville" show in the Henry Strater Theatre, which National Geographic calls one of the top places to experience in the USA!

Day 8 - After our included breakfast, we are off for another day of travel. Today's adventure includes lunch on the mountain as we chug along America's highest and longest narrow gauge railroad, the Cumbres & Toltec RR. The scenic journey unfolds as soon as the train leaves the Chama, New Mexico station. In just moments, the gradual climb into the mountains begins another day of memories. We end our day at the Alamosa Inn of the Rio Grande. Dinner is on your own this evening.

Day 9 - Following breakfast, today we visit the stunning Garden of the Gods, where flora and fauna reflect the rich diversity of the terrain, and red sandstone formations, tell a unique geological story. This afternoon we check into the "Cliff House", a "Four Diamonds" Historic Country Inn at the base of Pikes Peak. The afternoon is yours to eat lunch, enjoy and also shop in Manitou Springs. An evening dinner is included.

Day 10 - After an included breakfast, "Ride to the Clouds" aboard the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, the highest cog railroad in the U.S. which stretches nine miles long as it vertically climbs to almost 8,000 feet. Next, we travel to the U.S. Air Force Academy. This evening we assemble for an included farewell dinner at an old fashioned railroad depot, sharing memories of this unforgettable journey of Colorado.

Day 11 - Following an included breakfast, we leave Colorado and travel to Hays, Kansas. Upon check-in dinner will be on your own.

Day 12 - After an included continental breakfast, we will depart to our next overnight stay in St. Louis, Missouri with dinner on your own.

Day 13 - An included continental breakfast will be served before we depart for our home destination.
